about YENZ Design
My experience in residential renovations sets me apart.

Primarily working as a Sales designer, adding the responsibilities of Sales Manager and product development. I was extremely fortunate to enjoy incredible success, being trusted to work in many of Calgary’s most exclusive homes. Assisting customers select and purchase everything from cabinetry, counter tops, appliances, fixtures, floor and splash tile, lighting etc. After purchasing and running Denca from my parents with my sister for over 10 years, it was time for a new challenge.
I joined the sales team at Baywest homes and sold new homes for two years. Again, I was provided with an excellent opportunity to learn and grow.
Now having started Yenz design, and having worked in architectural and interior design for most of my life, I have a lot to offer whomever might require my skills and services.
My Experience
Having grown up in a family owned custom cabinetry business, and taking to design at a young age, I completing the first of thousands of kitchen & bathroom design drawings while I was in high school. Shortly afterwards I was not only designing but selling kitchen and bathroom cabinetry & counter tops. I fondly remembering my first three sales, all medicine cabinets. Fortunately, I was successful in selling more than medicine cabinets, including my very first custom kitchen for a young professional couple who lived in Rideau towers.
After working in the family business for a couple of years, I enrolled in the Architectural Technologies program at SAIT, after graduating with honors, I took a job with Stepper Homes as a drafts person. While at Stepper I had the opportunity to work as a site supervisor, and I managed and built over 20 homes. Although it was a difficult challenge, I feel so very fortunate for being given the responsibility and opportunity to learn so much so quickly. After 8 months as a site supervisor, I rejoined the design department until I left Stepper to join my parents in their cabinetry business again.
MY PROCESS
My Proven Approach
Dream
Whether you’ve been planning your new space for years or this will be a new home for you, the first step is to Dream - collect pictures online, Instagram, Houzz etc. Magazines, visit some showrooms and showhomes. Find out what you truly like and love, think about how you use your current space, what really works? and more importantly what doesn’t. Then have an honest and open discussion with members of the family, prioritize your collective wish lists considering form and function.
Realize
Time & Money are typically the biggest barriers to making your dreams come true. Now we figure out how much of your Dreams we can make reality, within the timeline and budget. This is a mixture of design and estimating, which is truly my turn to put my extensive skills and experience to work. I will guide you through the process and get us to a starting point for the project. The more decisions we can finalize at this point, the more accurately I will be able to confirm cost and timing.
Execute
Once we have finalized the drawings and the contract, the real work commences. We kick off the process by obtaining permits, conducting structural engineering assessments, and carrying out asbestos testing, among others. Prioritizing items with significant lead times, such as windows, doors, and plumbing fixtures, we place orders promptly.
Before we delve into the renovations, I take measures to protect the areas of the home that are to remain untouched. Then, the removal of outdated elements, like that worn-out carpet that has seen better days, can safely proceed. Once the removal phase is complete, a detailed schedule is established, and timelines are confirmed with our team of skilled tradespeople.
Throughout the Execution stage, I am actively involved in overseeing the progress alongside you and the trades, ensuring that details are verified and any challenges are promptly addressed. Serving as both the designer and builder, I efficiently navigate through most obstacles, ultimately saving you precious time and money in the process.
Maintaining an open line of communication, I am here to address any issues or concerns you may have during the entire process. Rest assured, you will be kept informed about the progress regularly, whether on a daily or weekly basis.
With my transparent approach, you can trust that you are receiving competitive pricing and that the trades are compensated fairly and promptly.

My Family
I am so very blessed and grateful to have a wonderful family. My wife and I have raised two children, whom are now fine young adults. My core principle revolves around treating people the way I would want my family to be treated.
